⚠ Draft — pending legal review
This is a working draft, not finalized legal text. Have it reviewed by a qualified attorney (COPPA / GDPR) before launch.
Read Me a Story (“we,” “us”) is operated by Entity LLC. We provide a service that lets a parent or legal guardian create personalized bedtime stories for their child. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, an optional display name, and a securely hashed password.
Child profile information you provide. To personalize stories, you may enter details about your child, including: first name, age, pronouns, interests and favorite things, pets, siblings (first name and age), and topics to avoid (for example, things that frighten them). You decide what to enter; only what is needed to personalize a story is required.
Stories and activity. We store the stories created for your family, which ones you favorite, and basic delivery records (such as when a story PDF was emailed).
Consent record. When you sign up we record that you affirmed you are the parent or legal guardian and accepted this policy, along with the date and policy version.
We use the information to operate the service: to create and personalize stories, to let you read, search, favorite, and re-read them, to email you a PDF when you ask, to keep your account secure, and to comply with our legal obligations.
A note on how stories are generated. When we generate a story, your child’s real name is notsent to the AI text provider — the story is written from a de-personalized template using placeholder tokens. Your child’s name is merged into the story on our servers only when it’s shown to you. This is a deliberate design choice to minimize what leaves our systems and reaches third parties.
We do not sell your or your child’s personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
We share limited information with vendors who help us run the service, only as needed:
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
The service is intended to be used by adults (parents and legal guardians) on behalf of their children. We do not knowingly allow children to create their own accounts, and the account holder must be 18 or older. Information about a child is provided by, and under the control of, the parent/guardian.
We collect a child’s information only with parental consent and only to provide the service. We do not require a child to disclose more than is reasonably necessary, we do not show children advertising, and we do not condition participation on disclosing more information than is needed. As a parent, you can review, edit, or delete your child’s information at any time (see Retention and deletion).
You can delete a child’s profile at any time from that child’s Edit preferences page (under “Danger zone”). Deleting a child permanently removes their profile and the stories personalized for them, including the stored personalization details — this cannot be undone.
You can delete your entire account from your account settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your account and all associated children, stories, and records.
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and then delete it, except where we must retain it to meet legal obligations.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise these directly in the app: download a copy of your data and edit or delete children from your account settings, delete your account there, or contact us using the details below.
We protect information with measures such as encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to limit what we collect and share.
If we make material changes, we will update the version and date above and, where appropriate, ask you to review and re-accept the policy.
